Webinar | Lydia Khalil on Conditions for a Successful Democracy
Join us online or in-person for an Afternoon Light Live with Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert and Georgina Downer.
Kylie is an Australian-British academic specialising in Middle Eastern politics, particularly Iran.
She came to international attention in 2018 when she was arrested in Iran and accused of espionage—charges she strongly denied. She was imprisoned for over two years in Tehran’s Evin Prison, much of it in solitary confinement.
In November 2020, she was released as part of a prisoner exchange deal between Iran and Australia. Since her return, she has spoken publicly about her experience, advocating for human rights and raising awareness about arbitrary detention.
With the US-Iran conflict at its peak, Kylie brings a viewpoint that extends beyond theories and is based on her own close encounter with the brutal Iranian regime.
We invite you to join us online OR attend in person (if you are in Melbourne) at the Robert Menzies Institute by registering via Eventbrite.
