Special viewing of Sir Robert Menzies’s Commonwealth Law Reports

Sir Robert Menzies's Commonwealth Law Reports
Special Viewing: Sir Robert Menzies's personal Commonwealth Law Reports

Members of the Robert Menzies Institute are invited to an exclusive viewing of Sir Robert Menzies’s private Commonwealth Law Reports on Tuesday 2 September, 11:30am.

The collection of Sir Robert’s CLRs (as the reports are popularly called in the legal fraternity) were gifted to the Institute recently by a valuable supporter Philip Crutchfield KC who has graciously agreed to be present for the viewing.

Sir Robert Menzies was admitted to the Victorian Bar in 1916 after graduating in law from the University of Melbourne and was appointed as King’s Counsel (KC) at the rather young age of 35. He appeared as counsel in some of the most significant Australian cases such as the Engineers’ Case.

Many of the CLRs, which are now in the Institute’s care, have his signature and notes in them. We received the collection a couple of weeks ago and are sifting through them for little gems.

The Institute invites all its members for an exclusive viewing of some of the CLRs over morning tea, and to thank Philip for his generosity and for his trust in the Institute.

Time: 11:30am-12:30pm
