  • Summary

Robert Menzies visited Indonesia for seven days in December 1959 following a formal invitation from the Indonesian Prime Minister Dr Djuanda. Menzies travelled with Dame Pattie Menzies, a small official party and media representatives. Principally a goodwill visit, Indonesian officials also raised concerns about China and Dutch claims over Western New Guinea. Menzies visited President Sukarno and was the guest of honour at an official dinner. He also visited Gagjah Mada University where he addressed a group of around 5000 students. After departing Indonesia, Menzies travelled to Malaysia.
