Menzies’s life as a public figure meant he was constantly photographed at events or when meeting dignitaries. This beautiful photograph album, presented to Menzies by the Government of Japan, depicts a collection of 23 pictures taken during Menzies’s trip to Japan in April 1957. The lively imagery offers a glimpse into Japanese culture and the enormous efforts put into its post war economic recovery. With the signing of the historic 1957 Commerce Agreement with Japan, Australia would help to fuel her economic miracle. The Commerce Agreement capped off a post war reconciliation between Australia and Japan which Menzies had spearheaded.
